People new to training martial arts or Chinese martial arts are welcome at our school.
Persons with martial arts experience are also welcome. We practice martial arts, and
specifically Gao style Baguazhang, because it is a fun and rewarding experience with
many benefits.
It is the policy of our school that we do not discriminate on the basis of age (provided
one is over 18), religion, gender, sexual orientation, handicap or health status. It is our
firm belief that the only condition which disqualifies someone from the practice of bagua
kungfu is "lack of motivation". The purpose of our "one month probation" policy is essentially
to give new potential members ample time to experience what and how we train and see
if it suits them. If it does not then they are (at very least) not yet ready for baguazhang
training at our school. Only the ability to try and the demonstrated willingness to keep
trying separate those with "real gongfu" (martial arts skill) from those who do not have
"real gongfu". Being overweight, lacking natural aptitude, lack of athletic experience, or
lack of an aggressive mindset are not factors that prevent one from practicing our art.
Being lazy or preferring to "talk" instead of "work" most definitely are problems.
All students who expect to join the school at the end of their one month period should
obtain or purchase the following items, which can be found in the products section or
at local merchants
1. A small notebook for copying down the names and short notes on the material they
have been shown and will be practicing.
2. A ZeZong Tee-shirt as the practice uniform should be acquired as soon as practical.
These can be purchased from the company listed in the Products section of our
website. These shirts are the same ones used by ZeZong practitioners worldwide
and may be purchased "at our cost" from the company who makes them for us.
3. A small trainer knife is needed, so that one can practice knife defense and
counter-for-counter drills. This can be a very inexpensive plastic model,
a wooden knife trainer, or a more expensive aluminum model. These can be
acquired from the merchants in the Links section, made oneself, or purchased
from Guro Brown, the Jeet Kune Do/Kali teacher, where our classes are held.
